The Geelong Welsh Ladies Choir is a group of ladies who meet once a week on Wednesdays for 2 hours to rehearse music, some of which is sung in welsh. Our membership, currently 26 lovely ladies, is inclusive and we welcome all ladies who can travel to Geelong who want to sing. When we can, we have concerts and join in other local events or travel to promote the Welsh culture. We also have social events and have lots of fun.
Our repertoire has become more and more varied and from many different genres. We will always sing some songs in Welsh but we now have many songs from other languages, such as Latin, Italian, Spanish and of course, English. We have only one Welsh born speaker in the choir in addition to our musical director but everywhere we perform our command of the Welsh language is applauded. Help is always given to all members to master the words of the Welsh songs so please don’t let this put you off coming along and having fun. We would love new members to come and sing with us.
WHERE & WHEN ARE REHEARSALS:- St Luke’s Church, Barrabool Road, Highton. 7 – 9pm, every Wednesday night
DO YOU NEED TO HAVE SINGING EXPERIENCE? No, just a commitment to attend and to practice at home.
DO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC? No, it obviously helps but we all help each other
DO NEW MEMBERS NEED TO HAVE AN AUDITION? No, we just want you to come along and enjoy singing with us. You will quickly work out which section you feel comfortable singing in, and in time it is amazing how much your singing voice will improve.
IS THERE ANY COST INVOLVED? We financially support ourselves so fundraising is part of our enjoyable social life to keep our annual fees and weekly costs to a minimum.
HOW DO YOU JOIN US? Please go to the contact us link on our website www.welshladieschoir.com.au and fill out the enquiry form or email us on geelongwelshlc@gmail.com and the Secretary will be in touch with you asap.
