Canberra Qwire welcomes members from across the LGBTIQ+ communities, as well as our allies. Consisting of approximately 90 members ranging from late teens right through to the wiser generations, we are all drawn together by our common love of music and singing.

Qwire acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we sing and come together. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded and that this was, always will be Ngunnawal land.

Qwire brings together people from diverse sections of the queer family to challenge stereotypes and build a bridge between Canberra’s queer and non-queer community. Since the founding members of Qwire stood up with pride in the 90s, Qwire has become increasingly diverse, welcoming people from across the queer community as well as our allies.

Qwire is highly regarded not only for its vocal strength and performances, but also for its relaxed and social atmosphere.

Qwire believes that everyone can (and should) sing, so there are no auditions. Regardless of experience or level of skill in music, anyone can indulge their passion for singing and develop their skills. Weekly rehearsals may include a mix of vocal activities, stagecraft and choreography.

We perform within Canberra each year including staging our own concerts (1 or 2 each year), at community events such as Fair Day and the Candlelight Vigil, and occasionally at festivals and other social events. Qwire has performed overseas in France, USA, Ireland, Germany and New Zealand. In early 2023 we are participated in World Pride in Sydney, the first time this event is being held in the Southern Hemisphere.

We are looking forward to performing with our special guest Judy Small in our upcoming concert to celebrate our 30th anniversary at Llewellyn Hall, School of Music at 3pm 11th November 2023.
