Based in Brisbane, The Queensland Choir is the premier choir in Queensland and has led the development of choral performance in our state and throughout Brisbane for over 150 years. Our choir’s excellent reputation is underpinned by a long and illustrious history and provides a platform on which the State of Queensland’s choral development can continue to strengthen and grow.
The choir brings together more than 100 volunteer choristers of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages, creating a community of enthusiastic and dedicated choristers who share a deep passion for choral music. Led by Kevin Power, OAM, the current musical director and conductor of the choir, members and supporters work together to achieve the goal of being integral to the advancement of choral music – its performance and promotion – throughout Queensland.
The choir performs a broad repertoire which ranges from the major works of the standard classical choral repertory through to lesser known works, opera choruses, musical comedy and Christmas carols.
Brisbane Sings Messiah is one of the choir’s signature events. Singers from the community are invited to rehearse Handel’s famous oratorio, The Messiah, with the choir and join the performance in the Brisbane City Hall.
Other major works performed by the choir include Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, Handel’s Samson, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Beethoven’s Mass in C and Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living.
