The KeyTones Choir is a dynamic and sociable Fitzroy-based choir with a diverse repertoire including gospel, pop, classical, world music and Broadway standards. The choir began life as The Nurses Choir of Victorian in 1997 at the Melbourne Citymission Chapel in February 1997. In recent years, the choir has opened up membership to the general public and now numbers around 40 choristers from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions.
Since 2004, the KeyTones have been in the capable hands of professional musical director (Jane Murone) and accompanist (Diana Wijaya). A non-auditioned group with an emphasis on having fun, the choir aspires to an increasing level of excellence in performance. We rehearse on a weekly basis, perform regularly in and around Melbourne and collaborate with other community choirs and groups. We have also participated in interstate choral festivals and events including the Hobart Festival of Voices (2009 and 2012), as part of a combined choir performing at the Sydney Opera House in July 2011 and most recently in the 2015 Wollongong Festival of Song.
The choir has been the subject of two documentaries,  ‘Something to Sing About’, which screened on Foxtel Digital and Channel 31 and the 2014 Dumbo Feather-produced ‘The Joy of Singing’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShwxZBMNxcY).
As an established community choir, we are always looking for different experiences that extend us as a group and to this end, we recently featured in David Greig’s provocative play The Events at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne in July 2016.
