A CONCERT OF GOSPEL SONGS
Feel the joy. Join the Fun.

Get your Gospel Groove on and come and sing with us for our concert of Gospel and Spiritual music in May, with Music Director Lauren Schmutter. Lauren is a talented local teacher and singer, well known to local audiences for her Musical Theatre performances and Direction.

Lauren has chosen a program of Gospel and Spiritual songs that will lift your spirits. It includes favourites such as “Oh Happy Day”, “Wade in the Water”, “Shine on Me’ and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. The concert will also include guest solos and duets from some of our talented local Musical Theatre performers. It will be a feast for the soul for singers and audience alike.

The parent genre of Gospel Music is African American Spirituals. These Spirituals are a part of American history and represent the hope, longing for freedom and the endurance of a people living under the violent yoke of slavery. At a time when violence is rife in so many ways in our world, Hope, Joy and Endurance are themes we need to embrace.

Rehearsals commence on Monday, 6 February 2023 at 7.30 – 9.30pm, in St David’s Uniting Church, Wilson Street Albury.

Concert dates are Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May 2023.
