The Camberwell Chorale is celebrating its 80th Anniversary with a concert conducted by Douglas Heywood OAM, who this year celebrates 50 years as its Music Director.

Accompanied by the 50-piece Camerata Orchestra with Leader Mary Johnston, the 100-voice Chorale will be joined by eight soloists who are well known to Melbourne audiences:
Sopranos - Lee Abrahmsen and Lauren Oldham
Mezzo-Soprano - Kerrie Bolton
Countertenor - Hamish Gould
Tenors - Christopher Busietta and Michael Lapina
Basses - Jerzy Kozlowski and Manfred Pohlenz

This special Anniversary Concert program includes a sampling from past performances of choral masterpieces by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Tippett, Ethel Smyth, Vivaldi and more.

2024 marks 80 years of uninterrupted music-making by the Camberwell Chorale, a wonderful achievement that is a tribute to the commitment of its choristers past and present, and to the talent and energy of the two remarkable men who have guided the Chorale’s fortunes since its inception in 1944. Dr Herman Schildberger founded and led the Chorale for 30 years, and Douglas Heywood OAM notches up 50 years as the Music Director this year. This Anniversary Concert, celebrating a remarkable achievement in Melbourne’s music community, should not be missed!
