The Sunshine Coast’s premiere vocal ensemble, Oriana Choir presents Johann Sebastian Bach's monumental St Matthew Passion on Sunday 8 November at 2:00pm at Venue 114, Kawana. Under the baton of acclaimed conductor Kim Kirkman, this extraordinary performance featuring double chorus and double orchestra brings together the rich voices of Oriana Choir, the Sinfonia of St Andrews, a special appearance by the Sunshine Coast Youth Choir, and distinguished soloists Michelle Bull (soprano), Anne Fulton (alto), Liam Jackson (tenor), and Jason Barry-Smith (bass).
Widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of Western music, St Matthew Passion is a work of breathtaking beauty, emotional power and spiritual depth. From its majestic opening chorus to its intimate arias and moving chorales, Bach's score weaves together moments of profound sorrow, tender compassion, dramatic intensity and transcendent hope.
