Gemma is a Sydney-based singer and singing educator in a wide range of contemporary and popular styles as well as world musics. A major specialty is acappella and she mentors small a cappella groups as well as directing choirs. She loves coaching beginner singers to advanced professionals in a variety of contexts including postgraduate tertiary education, community music and mental health. She has a PhD from, and is Honorary Research Fellow at, the Sydney Conservatorium and was lecturer, singing coach and postgraduate supervisor at the Australian Institute of Music 2011-2020. For three decades, she toured nationally and internationally with The Third Voice (current), Strike & String (current) Blindman's Holiday, The Transylvaniacs, Kengugro and Tokakros ensembles. Her singing research has been published internationally. Current research interests are group singing for mental health, singing as part of Australian Indigenous language revitalisation and ecomusicology.
