07:30 pm - 09:30 pm

Our 2026 Christmas concert is going to be rather wonderful. Our Music Director, Jeremy Kerr, has put together a selection of ancient and modern carols, opening with the lively "Hodie" by foundation member of the choir, the late Dr Terry Hillman AM. We then take you on a journey of Christmas music over the centuries – including the medieval poem “Adam Lay Ybounden”, several traditional carols such as the Czech carol “Rocking”, performed by the Murray Divas, our women’s chorus and “Stille Nacht”, performed by the Con Men, our men’s chorus.

The program also includes secular Christmas songs such as “Welcome to Christmas”, by local composer Barbara Tasker, written in 2021 for our first concert after COVID lockdown and “Christmas With You”, also created during COVID by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AM.

The first half concludes with the Australian première of the luminous "Galaxias" (“Stars”) by Argentinian composer Santiago Veros.

During the second half of the concert, you will be treated to the exciting sounds of the Rutter "Magnificat ", accompanied by the Albury-Wodonga Symphony Orchestra conducted by Guest Conductor Jessie Swan. The “Magnificat”, the canticle of the Virgin Mary, is found in the opening chapter of St. Luke’s Gospel, the point where Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth after learning that she is to be the mother of Christ. The music and the lyrics both express a sense of rejoicing and wonder that appropriately capture the Christmas spirit.

Of course, there will also be the old singalong favourites and classic carols to get you into a festive mood.
