Experience luminous harmonies and inspiring voices in a concert journeying from reflection to renewal through Fauré’s beloved Requiem.

In a world longing for stillness and connection, River City Voices invites audiences to pause, breathe, and be uplifted by the transcendent power of the human voice. This inspiring concert offers whispers of peace through an evening of choral beauty, reflection, and hope.

At the heart of the program is the timeless Requiem in D minor (1890) by Gabriel Fauré—a masterpiece cherished for its serenity and radiant sense of light. Unlike many dramatic settings of the Requiem Mass, Fauré’s work gently embraces themes of peace and eternal rest, culminating in the ethereal In Paradisum. Rather than dwelling in darkness, this luminous music carries listeners toward comfort and renewal.

Under the direction of Guest Conductor Dr Philip Eames with Oscar Balle-Bowness, River City Voices is joined by exceptional vocalists, soprano Ayako Ohtake and baritone Benjamin Caukwell. Internationally acclaimed organist Simon Nieminski will command the magnificent St Patrick’s Cathedral organ.

The program features works by Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, Joseph Romeo, Australian composer Alice Chance and First Nations composer Nicole Smede, reflecting themes of harmony, humanity, and hope—promising a warmth of sound lingering long after the final note!
